Day 2: Failte! Welcome to Ireland

Arrive Shannon Airport and pick up your car/meet your driver guide. Drive south Co. Limerick to Kenmare, Co. Kerry and check into The Park Hotel Kenmare. Spend today discovering the breathtaking Ring of Kerry. This naturally stunning region offers one of Ireland's most popular scenic drives with an impressive combination of mountain, bogland, and coastal scenery. With very few commercial tourist stops the Ring of Kerry's natural wonders and views are an attraction unto themselves, including three of Ireland's largest mountains, Carrantuohill, Beenkeragh, and Caher. Stop to see Staigue Fort, a large stone circular structure, reputed to date back to 1000 B.C. Make a stop at the Skellig Heritage Centre and see how life existed on the Skellig Mountains since the 6th-century. In the late afternoon return to the Park Hotel Kenmare and enjoy some of the facilities on offer. Enjoy dinner in the hotel this evening.

Day 3: Dingle Peninsula

Explore the ruggedly majestic Dingle Peninsula today, see some of the most breath-taking views in Ireland at Slea Head and Connor Pass. Perhaps learn some Irish to take home with you in this area that has remained a gaeltacht (Irish-speaking region). Enjoy lunch at one of the friendly pubs of Dingle Town, where the locals are as Irish as it gets. Later, return to the Park Hotel, and in the evening enjoy dinner in the hotel.

Day 4: Gift of the Gab


Longueville House
Mallow, Co. Cork

Depart the Park Hotel this morning and head east towards Cork perhaps stopping at Blarney Castle, where a kiss of the Blarney Stone is said to impart eloquence. Perhaps do some shopping at the Blarney Woolen Mills, where you will find everything from clothing to crystal, all Irish-made. Perhaps visit Cork city. All roads in the south seem to lead to Cork, the third largest City in Ireland. This bustling city goes back to the 6th century, when St. Finbarr founded a monastery on the area, and is home to some of the friendliest people around, the Corkonians. Perhaps visit St. Finbarr's Cathedral, built on what is said to be the site of St. Finbarr's monastic settlement in the 8th and 9th century. Later head north to Mallow, Co. Cork and check into Longueville House. This Georgian Heritage House built in 1720 is set in 500 acres of wooded estate and farm. Most of the hotel's food is produce from the farm and the restaurant has been commended in various international Food Guides and Magazines. Enjoy dinner in your hotel this evening.

Day 5: Waterford Crystal

Today perhaps head south to the Cork coast and visit the town of Cobh. See Cobh: The Queenstown Story, dedicated to the thousands of emigrants who left from this port between the 18th and 19th centuries. You will also find an exhibit dedicated to Titanic, which made its last stop in Cobh before its fateful trip. Later continue East to Waterford, stopping at the Waterford Crystal Factory. See this exquisite crystal being made and perhaps buy some to take home from the gift shop. Continue East from Waterford to Arthurstown Co. Wexford and check into Dunbrody House. Hiding in 200 acres of tranquil parklands, this 1830's Georgian manor is an enchanting getaway, known for its exquisite cuisine. Enjoy dinner in Dunbrody House tonight

Barberstown Castle
Co. Kildare

 

Day 6: Kilkenny

This morning head North to Kilkenny City, Ireland's medieval City. Tour Kilkenny Castle, which stands dominantly on the River Nore. Perhaps do some shopping at the Kilkenny Design Centre where you will find a variety of products, handmade by Irish artisans and craftsmen. Later head north to Straffan Co. Kildare and check into Barberstown Castle for a two-night stay. Dating back to the 13th century each bedroom in the castle is decorated in an individual style and dedicated to the people who once lived with in it's walls. The restaurant at Barberstown is award winning and offers wonderful country house fare. Enjoy dinner in the hotel tonight.

Day 7: Dublin's Fair City

Today perhaps visit the City of Dublin. Go to Smithfield and visit Ceol - the Irish Traditional Music Centre, an interactive museum dedicated to Irish music with a variety of high-tech exhibits and presentations, including a video exhibit on Irish dancing. Next see the Old Jameson Distillery, where you will see the birthplace of some of Ireland's finest. You may decide to have lunch in Smithfield or perhaps in Temple Bar. Later stroll through St. Stephens Green, the finest Georgian Square in Europe. Do some shopping on fashionable Grafton Street or in the Powerscourt Townhouse. In the evening return to Barberstown Castle for dinner. Say goodbye to your new friend and driver tonight.

Day 8: Slan Abhaile!

Drive to Dublin Airport and drop off your car/transfer by private driver to Dublin Airport, and depart Ireland for the U.S.
