Day 1:

Depart the U.S. for England.


Day 2:


Dorchester Hotel

Arrive Heathrow Airport, London and transfer to the Dorchester for a 3-night stay. With its superb central location opposite Hyde Park, the Dorchester established itself as one of the top hotels in the world shortly after opening in 1931. Spend this afternoon on your own, perhaps doing some shopping or getting acquainted with the geography of the city. In the evening perhaps take in one of London's many world-renowned musicals.

 

 


Day 3:

Today take in London's many sites. Perhaps take a private London City Tour and visit the highlights including, the Crown Jewels in the Tower of London, the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, and the old and faithful Big Ben. Perhaps take a walk along the Thames and take some photos of London Bridge. You may decide to visit the Dome, the largest structure of its kind, built to celebrate the year 2000. Exhibitions will include 14 spectacular state-of-the-art themed zones, examining the choices facing humankind at work, rest and play in the 21st century. Tonight perhaps have dinner in one of Notting Hill's many quaint restaurants or enjoy the buzz of Islington.


Day 4:

See more of London today on your own. Visit Westminister Abbey, an architectural masterpiece of the 13th to 16th centuries, and the crowning and burial site of monarchs since 1066. See St. Paul's Cathedral, designed by Sir Christopher Wren after the Great Fire of London burnt down its predecessor in 1666. Visit Shakespeares Globe Exhibition, where the story of the Globe Theater, the city of Londons playground in Shakespeare's day. In the afternoon perhaps you will get a glimpse into British politics & visit the Houses of Parliament where seating is available in the visitors' galleries during debates. Tonight enjoy dinner in one of the many restaurants for which London has become famous.


Day 5:


Amberley Castle

This morning meet your British driver/guide drive Southwest to Southampton, where the ill-fated Titanic set sail from before her doomed voyage. You can find many memorials to members of her crew all over the city. See the places where King Henry V set sail for Agincourt in 1415 and the Mayflower departed with the Pilgrims bound for America. Continue south perhaps stopping Gosport to see Little Woodham, a re-creation of a 17th century English village, complete with dwellers going about every day 17th century life. Continue to the ferry that takes you to the Isle of Wight, the holiday residence of Queen Victoria. Visit her home Osborne House, which is now open to the public. Later drive to Amberley, near Arundel for a 1-night stay at Amberley Castle. The 900-year-old castle is now a luxurious country house hotel, offering peaceful surroundings on 12 acres of landscaped gardens.


Day 6:


Chewton Glen

Today drive East to the quaint and quiet little town of Christchurch, which has narrow streets dotted with shops and teahouses. Continue along the breath-taking South coast of Dorset to Bournemouth, a top holiday destination with both British and foreign tourists. Drive through Poole, which has the largest natural harbours in Europe. Later drive onward to Corfe Castle on the Isle of Purbeck, although a ruin, it is a mysterious attraction. Continue along the scenic South coast of Dorset arriving at the lovely seaside town of Weymouth. You may perhaps continue onward to Wells, the smallest city in England, and the legendary birthplace of King Arthur! See the magnificent cathedral the city boasts. Drive to New Milton, Hampshire for a 2-nights stay at Chewton Glen. This superb world renowned hotel boasts exquisite gardens, as well as a host of facilities, all complimented by the best in service, style and luxury.


Day 7:

See more of the South of England today as you drive through the beautiful countryside. Stop in Windsor to see the magnificent Windsor Castle. Rising majestically out of the Thames, this royal residence is the largest inhabited castle in the world. Take a tour of the castle and learn of its extensive history. Continue to the Salisbury Plain to see one of the world's most renowned stone structures, Stonehenge. Begun around 2,800 B.C. and enlarged between 2100 and 1900 B.C. this mystical wonder served several purposes, most importantly as a religious site.


Day 8:


Charingworth Manor

This morning drive to Oxford home to the world's most prestigious university. In this vibrant learning centre visit 'The Oxford Story', a ride-thru museum which takes you through the citys 800 year history. Visit the Ashmolean Museum, the UK's oldest museum and art gallery. Continue to the Cotswolds to Chipping Campden in Gloucestershire for a 2-night stay at Charingworth Manor. This beautifully restored, historic manor house is situated in delightful gardens on a private estate in the heart of the Cotswolds and has a variety of facilities, including a leisure spa with pool, sauna and gym.


Day 9:

Today perhaps enjoy the Cotswolds or drive to nearby Stratford upon Avon, famous for being the stomping ground of William Shakespeare. See the five houses associated with the treasured writer, including his birthplace and Anne Hathway's Cottage. Later perhaps take a leisurely stroll along the Avon or in some of Stratfords many shops. Later return to Charingworth and enjoy the facilities.


Day 10:


Chester Grosvenor hotel

This morning drive North, visit Warwick Castle en-route. This magnificent fortress towers over the banks of the River Avon, on a site first fortified by William the Conqueror in 1068. Warwick Castle is considered the finest medieval castle in England. Continue driving North toward Chester. Famous for its black-and-white "magpie" buildings and surrounded by Roman walls and fortified city gates. Indeed toward the Eastgate you can see the great ornamental clock, erected to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897. Lots of small shops by this part of the walls sell old books, antiques and jewelry. Check into The Chester Grosvenor for a 1-night stay. Built in 1865 and located in the heart of historic Chester, adjacent to the Roman Walls this small luxury hotel offers a choice of the finest foods and wines.


Day 11:


Holbeck Ghyll Country House Hotel

Today you may choose to see more of Chester before heading North towards the Lake District. The Lake District comprises of mountains, lakes and dales blessing the area with natural beauty that can only be described as one of England's finest attractions. When arriving to the area you may take time out after your journey to enjoy one of the many peaceful walks available, relax and enjoy your walk as you stroll around the scenic countryside. Check in to the Holbeck Ghyll Country House Hotel for a 2-night stay. Situated in Windermere, Cumbria on the Southern Half of the Lake District, this 19th-century hunting lodge has breathtaking lake views, log fires in relaxing lounges and a superb restaurant and health spa service.


Day 12:

See more of the Lake District where there are no sights to compete with that of Lake Windermere itself. At 11 miles long, 1.5 miles wide it fills a rocky gorge between steep, thickly wooded hills. You may perhaps take a boat trip on the Lake itself, a wonderful way to spend a few summer hours. Other nearby attractions include the homes of William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Here you may appreciate The World of Beatrix Potter, a three-dimensional presentation of some of her most famous characters, alongside videos and films of her stories. You may also choose to visit Bowness, which offers a choice of various jewelry and craft shops before heading back to your Hotel for the night.


Day 13:


Turnberry Hotel

Today depart the Lake District and drive North, traveling up the West coast and crossing the border into Scotland. Take in the beautiful West coast of Scotland scenery as you travel. Perhaps stop off somewhere for lunch maintaining your slow pace as you head toward Turnberry for a 2-nights stay at the Turnberry Hotel Golf Courses and Spa. This grand traditional Edwardian building has an Oceanside setting with views to the Isle of Arran and the Mull of Kintyre. They have numerous lounges and a superb choice of bars available as well as their spa. You may choose to relax and enjoy the superb facilities and surroundings of Turnberry. The spas centerpiece is a magnificent pool with breathtaking views across the Irish Sea to Ailsa Craig. There are luxurious individual treatment rooms, as well as saunas steam rooms and a solarium. Here you may choose to spend the rest of the day unwinding among these outstanding facilities after your drive.


Day 14:

Today you may choose to visit nearby Culzean Caste. High on a cliff above the Firth of Clyde, Culzean Castle is one of the most romantic in Scotland. Designed at the end of the 18th Century, the elegant interior includes the spectacular Oval Staircase and the Circular Saloon. Alternatively, you may choose to stay in the fabulous grounds of the hotel, relax and pamper yourself among the many facilities. This evening you may choose to dine in the hotel.


Day 15:


One Devonshire Hotel

This morning continue heading North towards Glasgow, Scotlands "other capital" and check into the superb One Devonshire Gardens for a 1-night stay. Housed in a traditional blonde sandstone townhouse, this hotel offers the best in its class in Glasgow, including an antique dŽcor and renowned cuisine. You may choose to go shopping to Glasgow's many bustling shops or visit some of the sites of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the Glasgow Architect who put Glasgow on the world map and was partly responsible for what is now known as the Glasgow Style. Visit the Hunterian Museum and Gallery, see how Mackintosh lived in a carefully restored recreation of his home and then in the Gallery enjoy the unique style of the Scottish colourists in this enchanting exhibition. This evening perhaps experience dinner at One Devonshire Gardens and visit a few of Glasgow's great pubs, enjoying some traditional folk music, or alternatively visit the home of Scottish Opera or Ballet.


Day 16:

Today drive north toward the spectacular highland landscape and see some of Scotlands most colourful scenery, including Loch Ness, where if you're lucky, you may run into Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster! Perhaps stop for lunch on the way to maintain your slow pace. Relax and enjoy the stories from your guide whilst you discover Scotland at its best. Drive back down south and arrive at Inverlochy Castle for a 1-night stay. Standing among the foothills of Ben Nevis, in its own 500 acres surrounded by rhododendrons and landscape gardens. Inverlochy Castle offers its guests a warm welcome, with cuisine and a wine cellar of the highest standard.


Day 17:


Skibo Castle

This morning continue your leisurely drive through the spectacular Highland landscape, you may choose to spend some time in Inverness, the capital of the Highlands before traveling to the sleepy town of Dornoch which goes back, it is believed, almost 3000 years. Dornoch has a romantic and almost medieval atmosphere to it and the pace is slow and relaxing, while the scenery dramatic. Arrive at Skibo Castle. Considered the very finest accommodation in the British Isles, Skibo was formerly the home of Andrew Carnegie and has hosted a wide variety of dignitaries and celebrities. Day 18:

Explore the town of Dornoch in the morning and discover a little of the history of the town where, it is claimed, the last witch in Scotland was burnt in 1772! Visit the Dornoch Craft Centre located in the old jail and learn a little of 19th century prison life. After lunch enjoy a drive to the nearby Dunrobin Castle dating back to the 13th century which stands on a natural terrace by the sea. Here you will see the massive ancient keep and some of the 19th Century rooms. In the grounds of the castle you may visit an exhibition showing Pictish stones and many other interesting items depicting local history. Later perhaps have a spa treatment in the full service leisure centre. Explore the extensive estate and enjoy afternoon tea in the castle.


Day 19:


Gleneagles Hotel

 

After breakfast begin your journey south through the heart of Scotland, heading for the world famous Gleneagles. The journey from Dornoch will take you through some of Scotland's most colourful scenery. Perhaps stopping for lunch on the way in one of the small towns on the way to maintain your slow pace. Relax and enjoy the stories from your guide whilst you discover Scotland at its best. Arrive at Gleneagles late this afternoon for a 2-night stay. One of Scotlands most complete 5-star resorts, this massive estate boasts luxurious accommodation and a wide variety of activities and facilities. Perhaps enjoy some pampering at this fabulous traditional haven of luxurious quality.


Day 20:


St. Andrews Hotel

Today you may choose to play a round of golf on one of the world famous Gleneagles courses. Alternatively you may take a day trip to nearby St. Andrews - one of the most historic towns of Scotland, bearing the name of the country's patron saint. The town is world famous for its golf, or rather the birth of golf. With history stretching back to the 4th Century this ancient town offers, more than just interest for the golfer. The ancient golf club was founded in 1754 by the Society of St Andrews Golfers which consisted of 22 noblemen and gentlemen who enjoyed this game of 'gentle exercise.' The University of St Andrews, founded in 1412 is the oldest in Scotland lends an ancient authority to the landscape of the town and emphasises the feeling of the dignity of the academia.


Day 21:


Balmoral Hotel

After breakfast depart Gleneagles for Edinburgh where you will spend 2 luxurious nights at the Balmoral Hotel. Located on Princes Street, this 5-star hotel is the acme of luxury accommodation in Edinburgh featuring the most dramatic backdrop of Arthur's Seat and Edinburgh Castle, as well as excellent service and superb cuisine. Spend this afternoon strolling through the old town and rambling along the Royal Mile towards Edinburgh Castle, a breathtaking sight at night when the castle is lit against the velvet dark sky. See the Scottish Crown Jewels and visit the various buildings within the Castle. This evening why not enjoy one of the goulish walking tours through the cobbled streets and learn of the creepy stories of some of Edinburgh's legends. Finish it off with a dram in one of the many traditional pubs. Say good-bye to your new friend and driver. This evening perhaps have dinner in the hotel or in one of Edinburghs many fine restaurants.


Day 22:

Spend this morning exploring more of the exciting history of Edinburgh, get your best walking shoes on and enjoy the majesty of the capital city. Visit the Grassmarket area and learn the enchanting story of Greyfriars Bobby who showed such devotion to his owner that for years after his death the little dog sat by the grave mourning his friend. A statue commemorates this unusual tale. Discover the winding cobbled streets and find respite in the many pubs and tea shops scattered between the many shops in the winding streets. If time permits visit the RSA Gallery in Princes Street and view some of Scotland's finest contemporary and traditional artists. This evening perhaps enjoy a play, opera or ballet depending on the time of year you may take advantage of the many theatres offering diverse entertainment.


Day 23:


Culloden Hotel

This morning transfer to Edinburgh Airport for your flight to Belfast. Arrive Belfast airport and meet your driver and guide. Transfer to the Culloden Hotel for a 2-night stay. Standing on the slopes of Holywood Hills, overlooking Belfast Lough, Royal Belfast Golf Course and the County Antrim coastline, the Culloden Hotel is Northern Ireland's most distinguished five star hotel, renowned for it's excellent cuisine. Culloden guests can also relax in luxury in the Elysium Health and Leisure Club. This afternoon you may choose to take a historic tour of the Murals of Belfast symbolizing the passion of the Belfast people.


Day 24:

See more of Northern Ireland today as you travel up the North Coast, enjoying the panoramic coastal views along the way. Travel through the verdant panoramas of the Glens of Antrim, nine lovely flowing valleys, formed 20,000 years ago by retreating glaciers. Each glen has an individual name, based on the original Gaelic language or on local legends and lore. Arrive at the Giants Causeway. Extending for three miles along the coast the Giants Causeway is a unique natural rock formation and is undoubtedly Northern Irelands most photographed attraction. Often called the 8th wonder of the world it consists of more than 37,000 tightly packed basalt columns, almost like stone steps. Later when returning to Belfast perhaps enjoy dinner in the hotel or in one of Belfasts many restaurants.


Day 25:


The Merrion

Today travel South departing Belfast for Dublin. En route tour the Boyne Valley, where you will see the Hill of Tara and the Newgrange Visitor Centre. Both are examples of Irelands ancient, mystical, and interesting history. This afternoon arrive in Dublin city centre for a 2-night stay at The Merrion. Comprising four Georgian mansions Dublin's premier 5-star hotel offers excellent service, well appointed bedrooms, and an excellent location, just a short walk from St. Stephen's Green. After some rest take a tour of Dublin City, visiting St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin's oldest Christian site, dating back to the time of St. Patrick. See the Book of Kells in Trinity College and drive through Phoenix Park, where the U.S. Ambassador resides. In the evening perhaps have dinner in the hotel.


Day 26:

Discover more of Dublin today on your own. Walk to Smithfield and visit Ceol the Irish Traditional Music Centre, an interactive museum dedicated to Irish music with a variety of high-tech exhibits and presentations, including a video exhibit on Irish dancing. You may decide to have lunch in Smithfield or perhaps back in Temple Bar. Later stroll through St. Stephens Green, the finest Georgian Square in Europe. Do some shopping on fashionable Grafton Street or in the Powerscourt Townhouse. In the evening perhaps a show at the Abbey Theater, or enjoy dinner and live Irish entertainment at the Jury's Cabaret.


Day 27:


Marlfield House

This morning drive south into Wicklow, "the garden of Ireland". Visit Powerscourt Gardens and Waterfall, which features an extensive and eclectic group of gardens and the largest waterfall in the British Isles. Continue south through the Wicklow mountains to Glendalough, a 6th century monastic ruin set in a majestic mountain haven. Drive further south to the lovely village of Avoca and visit the Avoca Handweavers, where you can see the fine linens being made and do some shopping. Continue to Gorey, County Wexford for a 1-night stay in suites at Marlfield House. This elegant Regency mansion is filled with antiques, period furniture, valuable works of art, fresh flowers, and sumptuous fabrics. Tonight perhaps enjoy Marlfields gourmet country house dinner, made with produce grown in the house's own garden.


Day 28:


Park Hotel Kenmare

 

This morning drive through Waterford, stopping at the Waterford Crystal Factory. See the famous glass being blown and cut and perhaps do some shopping. Continue into County Cork, stopping at Blarney Castle, where a kiss of the Blarney Stone is said to impart eloquence. Perhaps do some shopping at the Blarney Woolen Mills, where you will find everything from clothing to crystal, all Irish-made. Continue through incredibly scenic West Cork, taking in the views that have made Ireland famous for natural beauty. Drive into County Kerry, arriving in Kenmare. Check into the Park Hotel Kenmare for a 2-night stay. Day 29:

Spend today exploring the world renowned Ring of Kerry. This naturally stunning region has lured locals and travelers for years with its spectacular mountain, lakeside, bogland, and coastal scenery. With very few commercial tourist stops the Ring of Kerry's natural wonders and views are an attraction unto themselves, including Irelands four largest mountains, Carrantuohill, Beenkeragh, Caher, and Carrautonhill. Stop to see Staigue Fort, a large stone circular structure, reputed to date back to 1000 B.C. Make a stop at the Skellig Heritage Centre and see how life existed on the Skellig Mountains since the 6th-century. In the late afternoon return to the Park Hotel, perhaps in the evening enjoy dinner in the Hotel.


Day 30:


Adare Manor Hotel

Discover more of Kerry today, visiting Killarney, the bustling center of Kerry. Visit Muckross House and Gardens and take a horse and jaunt ride through the Killarney National Park. For more spectacular scenery visit Aghadoe, which offers panoramic views of the Lakes of Killarney and the surrounding mountains. Later drive north through the picturesque village of Adare, which offers thatched roofed cottages, interesting monastic ruins, and a variety of antique and specialty shops. Check in to Adare Manor for a 1-night stay. This castle-like resort was built in 1832 as the residence of the Earl of Dunraven and boasts stately halls, elegant bedroom, and a vast variety of facilities and activities, including a championship golf course, horse back riding, and a leisure centre.


Day 31:


St. Clerans Hotel

Continue through Limerick into County Clare, stopping to visit Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, where you will get a glimpse into 19th century Ireland. Continue to the magnificent Clare Coast and see the world renowned Cliffs of Moher, which stretch dramatically 700 feet. Drive through Clares Burren region and into County Galway, arriving in Craughwell for a 2-night stay at St. Clerans. Formerly the family home of John Houston, the famous director, this small luxury country house is immaculately decorated and dedicated to personalized service and attention. Tonight you may enjoy another gourmet dinner at St. Clerans.


Day 32:

Visit Galway City today. As one of Ireland's most exciting cities, Galway is a meeting place for the old world and the new world, featuring centuries-old architecture and a vibrant artistic and student community. See the Spanish Arch, the remnants of a once stately arch on Galway Bay. Perhaps do some shopping at the Judy Green Design Centre, where you will find handcrafted items made exclusively by Irish artisans. Later tour wonderful Connemara, western Galway and one of Ireland's gaeltacht (Irish-speaking regions). Drive through the Twelve Pins Mountains and stop in the seaside town of Clifden, the capital of Connemara before returning to St. Clerans.


Day 33:

Transfer from the Hotel to Dublin Airport and say good-bye to your Irish driver/guide. Depart for the U.S.
