Arrive at Dublin Airport where you will transfer on your own to The Schoolhouse Hotel for a 2-night stay. This lovely and original hotel is located in Ballsbridge, the embassy district, and offers guests an excellent bar and restaurant, and stylish accommodation. After some rest tour Dublin and visit St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin’s oldest Christian site, dating back to the time of St. Patrick. See the Book of Kells in Trinity College. In the evening perhaps have dinner in one of Dublin’s excellent restaurants and later perhaps enjoy a welcome pint at one of the many pubs and wine bars Dublin has to offer.

Day 3: The Pulse of Ireland

Discover more of Dublin today. Go to Smithfield and visit the Old Jameson Distillery, where you will see the birthplace of some of Ireland’s finest. Perhaps visit the Guinness Storehouse, where you will lead yourself through a hi-tech exhibit devoted to the country’s favorite national drink, and end with a taste of the black stuff in their 360-degree lounge, which overlooks Dublin. Later stroll through St. Stephen’s Green, the finest Georgian Square in Europe. Do some shopping on fashionable Grafton Street or in the Powerscourt Townhouse. Perhaps enjoy a show at the Abbey Theater or the Jury’s Cabaret tonight.

Day 4: 1,000 Shades of Wicklow Green


Rathsallagh House
Co. Wicklow


This morning meet your driver/guide or pick up your car and begin your tour of Ireland by driving south into Wicklow, “the garden of Ireland”. Visit Powerscourt Gardens and Waterfall, which features an extensive and eclectic group of gardens and the largest waterfall in the British Isles. Continue south through the Wicklow Mountains to Glendalough, a 6th century monastic ruin set in a majestic mountain haven. Drive west to Dunlavin and Rathsallagh House for a 1-night stay. Formerly Queen Anne’s stables in 1798 Rathsallagh offers an ideal rural retreat for those looking to enjoy a relaxing stay in beautiful surroundings. Perhaps dine in the hotel this evening.

Day 5: Waterford Crystal and the Medieval City

Co. Cork

Depart Dunlavin today and drive to Kilkenny City, Ireland’s best example of a medieval city, which still has a lot of 13th and 14th century features. Visit the dominating sight of Kilkenny Castle. Situated on the River Nore, this intimidating castle dates back to 1192, and carries with it a great deal of interesting history.
Drive into Co. Waterford today and visit the Waterford Crystal factory where you can enjoy a tour around the factory and see the intricate processes that go into the production of this etiquette crystal. Drive to Co. Tipperary and visit Cahir Castle, one of Ireland’s largest medieval fortresses, dating back as far as the 8th century. Continue to Mallow, Co. Cork and Longueville House for a 2-night stay. This Georgian Heritage House is located on the Blackwater River providing access to 5 km of private fly-fishing, which also provides fresh produce for the renowned Presidents’ Restaurant. Perhaps dine in the hotel this evening.

Day 6: Midleton Whiskey and The Gift of the Gab


Blarney Castle

Spend today exploring Co. Cork. Begin by visiting Blarney Castle, where a kiss of the Blarney Stone is said to impart eloquence. Perhaps do some shopping at the Blarney Woolen Mills, where you will find everything from clothing to crystal, all Irish-made. Continue to Midleton and the Old Midleton Whiskey Distillery, where you can enjoy a tour round this historic distillery followed by a sample or two! Continue to Cobh where you can see Cobh: The Queenstown Story, dedicated to the millions of people who emigrated between 1842 and 1950. You will also find an exhibit dedicated to the Titanic, which made its last stop in Cobh before making its fateful trip. Depart Cobh and return to Longueville House.

Day 7: Killarney Town & The Knight of Glin


Glin Castle
Co. Limerick

After breakfast drive into Co. Kerry and spend some time in and around Killarney Town. Enjoy the scenic drive through the Killarney National Park and see the Lakes of Killarney. See Muckross House and Gardens and take a horse and jaunt ride through the Killarney National Park. Absorb some more of Ireland’s unparalleled scenery from Gap of Dunloe. Perhaps have an Irish coffee at Kate Kearney’s Cottage, named for a local who ran a speakeasy on the property. Continue north through County Limerick and to Glin Castle for a 1-night stay. Situated on the banks of the River Shannon this elegant Norman castle, owned by the Knight of Glin, is an authentic example of Irish grandeur, offering individually decorated bedrooms, antique furnishings, and outstanding cuisine. Perhaps dine in the castle this evening.

Day 8: Slan Abhaile!

 

Transfer by private driver/drive to Shannon Airport, drop off your car, and depart Ireland for the U.S. Slan Abhaile!
